A month ago things were looking very promising for the Catalans to repeat last years successful treble.
But a draw before the international break, followed by a home El Classico defeat to arch rivals Real Madrid put some doubt in their season.
A tight 2-1 home victory over Atletico in the mid week Champions League match left things very open in the tie. Before then losing away at Real Sociedad yesterday has blown their 10 point lead to just four points over the two Madrid sides.
The loss at the weekend marked back to back league defeats for the first time since November 2014 for Barcelona.
This poor run has also coincided with a slump in fork from star players Lionel Messi and Neymar in recent weeks.
So what’s going on?
It’s unclear to highlight the absolute problem. Maybe it’s just a case of a mid season dip, but it’s very unlike Barcelona.
As mentioned Neymar and Messi have dipped, looking ineffective against both Madrid sides.
If Barcelona are to achieve another formidable treble they will certainly need the front three firing on all cylinders.
Could they lose it all?
For me the league is still well and truly in their hands, I think they would have to have a catastrophic end to their season to lose the league now.
I think the Copa Del Rey is also theirs for the taking once again, as Real Madrid are already out following a removal by the Spanish authorities for fielding an illegible player.
The Champions League? Well, I think it will be a very difficult game on Wednesday following the weekends defeat. And with Atletico playing at home, you’d imagine they would be able to get a goal or two.
You would think Messi and Neymar need to up their game for that tie as they may need a goal or two themselves. I can see Atletico going through in this one, but never right off Barca they may come through and win it all yet!
