Manchester United sign Memphis Depay

Manchester United have agreed a deal with PSV Eindhoven for the transfer of Dutch forward Memphis Depay. The fee is believed to be in the region of £25-£30 million, with the player believed to have signed a four year deal. Depay announced early on today on his personal Twitter account that the deal had been done “Time to set my goals again on winning trophies with Manchester United”.

This transfer has been long in the making after such speculation began when the former Netherland’s coach Louis Van Gaal took over the helm at Old Trafford last summer. Since his sparkling coming of age at the World Cup Depay has been linked with a variety of clubs; Liverpool, Tottenham and most notably Manchester United. United have added to their attacking strength, but where will he fit in?

The Manchester club currently have options in; Ashley Young, Angel Di Maria, Luis Antonio Valencia and Adnan Januzaj. Surely now with the purchase of Depay, speculation will grow as to who will make way for the Dutch International. Adnan Januzaj has been used as a spare part by Van Gaal, and with links being made about a loan spell away from the club, these may well come true.

Manchester United’s record signing Angel Di Maria has seemingly gone off the boil at United, fueling speculation that he is unhappy. He began life at Old Trafford well, being seen as a sparkling addition that will turn the Red Devils form around into a top class side once more. Since the opening few months, a loss of form, a few injuries and a suspension have left the Old Trafford faithful questioning his interest at the club. PSG are likely suitors and they will most certainly try to tempt the Argentine away from the club.

Memphis Depay will have his medical next week, and will officially complete his move once the transfer market re-opens in June.
